Redwood City is a community of just over 75,000 residents and is a city devoted to preserving its rich history while carefully planning for its future. This waterfront Bay Area city is the seat of San Mateo County and is a hot spot of revitalization that rivals Oakland in the East Bay. Surrounded by shopping and restaurants, downtown Redwood City also features a new 20-theatre cinema and retail center. Fox Theatre is in the heart of downtown Redwood City and was inducted into the National Register of Historic Places. Since the re-opening of the theater in 2010, downtown Redwood City has become one of the most happening entertainment spots between San Jose and San Francisco. There are over 100 events per year, and a night on the town is an excellent way to experience Redwood City.

 

Redwood City is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to schools, with the best schools located up the hill above Alameda De Las Pulgas. Students attend elementary and middle schools within the Redwood City Elementary District, and high school within the San Mateo Union High School District. A large majority of Redwood City high school age students will attend Sequoia High School located near downtown Redwood City. This school is the first ever high school established on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Private school options abound for high school at nearby Serra High School in San Mateo and Sacred Heart in Atherton.
